3 Things to Remember about Offsites 1. Organizations need to 'lift up' more than once a year to thrive 2. Team building is not about doing stupid human tricks 3. Offsites are the best way to 'reset' and generate energy around whatever is next
I can't count how many offsites I have been a part of. They always seem to be productive in that people leave feeling energized. But in most cases, that energy is quickly degraded by the day-to-day. What happens to all that insight and motivation? It is a bit of an art to design a retreat or workshop so that it generates enough energy to leave people feeling rejuvenated toward a goal but generates enough action to result in real progress.
Level 1: The Basics. I will work with you to frame the intent and desired outcome for the retreat or workshop (up to 2 calls). You will get a custom-designed session guide complete with (a) a participant workbook that includes everything from the agenda to to worksheets and (b) an expanded facilitator's view with all the directions and break-out instructions. And of course, I will provide the necessary facilitation in a way that moves the group along toward decisions and draft products, promotes self-generated solution design from participants, and allows for thoughtful changes in the agenda on the fly. Level 2: Action. In addition to everything above, I will interview up to 3 key stakeholders or participants in advance of the session to gain additional insight on what might be needed to ensure a successful session. After the session, I will provide you with a summary of your offsite experience and the key information that was captured during collaborative exercises. I will also provide you with an recommended action plan that you can use to craft your implementation. That plan will include my recommendations for expanding or adjusting the decisions made during the offsite. Level 3: Progress Surge. In addition to everything above, I will provide 6 months of follow-up on your most important action items. or the goal overall. You will receive periodic reminders as well as additional resources that will help you make follow-on decisions and frame additional actions. I will provide you with feedback and recommendations on any relevant product, such as a revised webpage, pitch deck or proposal, or description of a new service design.
test & invest: maximize your likelihood of success
3 Things to Remember about Entrepreneurship 1. Success has much more to do with the entrepreneur than it does the idea. 2. There is a way to predict the likelihood of your success as an entrepreneur. 3. Replacing some of your hard work with a little strategy can make you more successful. (And less tired.)
I am proud to say that I am one of the first 50 people in the world trained to deliver the instrument that can tell you what your likelihood of success is at being an entrepreneur. My hypothesis is that this applies to social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders alike. The traits that make an entrepreneur successful are the same ones that enable social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders to disrupt the status quo, serve more people, solve more problems, and build stronger enterprises.
Level 1 Package: Total DIY. I will send you a code & instructions for taking the entrepreneurial assessment. You will read your very brief report. I will send you a guide I created to help you interpret your results. I will also send you a list of resources to learn more about those talents and how you can use them. Level 2 Package: Strategies. In addition to everything above, I will share with you what your entrepreneurial talent intensity scores are. I will show you how you stack up against top entrepreneurs and the general population. You will dig deep to understand your unique abilities and limitations by answering questions and recalling stories in strategic coaching sessions. I will recommend ways for you to invest in your higher talents and ways to compensate for your lower talents. Level 3 Package: Action Planning. In addition to everything above, I will help you set goals based on your strategies. I will teach you how to use personal or team Kanban to break down those goals into smaller actions that are easily accomplished in 1-2 week periods. You will work with your team and partners to refine the action plan as well as define or refine the roles that everyone plays. We will commit the high level action plan to a tasking platform. You will adjust the planned actions as you go to ensure that you are being responsive to new information, emerging opportunities, and lessons learned. Level 4 Package: Implementation with Coaching. In addition to everything above, you will take actions according your plan. I will check in with you regularly to see how you are doing. I will coach you through any unforeseen impediments and any changes you need to make in your implementation. You will make adjustments in your actions and experiment with different behaviors until you get the results you are seeking. I will provide feedback on your work, new ideas, and motivation when you need it. I will also help you craft your success story. Literally. I will teach you how to use story structure to capture how you have overcome challenges and achieved real results. You will write and practice sharing your story to anyone and everyone who can be part of your success. And I will calculate your return on investment (ROI) or return on expectations (ROE) so you have a quantitative evidence that you made a good choice and the effort was all worth it. Level 5 Package: A Hired Hand. In addition to everything above, this is the level where you get my help actually doing the things that you need to get done. Edit your story. Make presentations to your stakeholders. Coach your team. Facilitate a workshop. Connect you with others who can help you. promote your work on social media.
3 Things to Remember about Solving Problems or Overcoming Obstacles 1. There are always solutions. Plural. 2. Physical movement enhances problem-solving ability. Seriously. It's science. 3. If it is important and you haven't done it on your own by now, you probably need a jump start.
Don't worry, solving those pesky issues is a walk in the park. Using a little brain science, some hard-core goal setting, a splash of Agile principles, basic posture & movement technique, and a few other approaches, we will get to work conquering your targeted milestones with a sense of urgency -- and fun. I actually guarantee results and a return on your investment. Seriously, this is not a sales pitch. I hate that. This is a no-fail partnership where you get real, measurable progress from a combination of executive coaching, organizational performance training, light physical activity, task management, accountability tracking, and your own success story to share. Easy. Once you lock in this new habit for problem-solving & productivity, you can implement it with your team under your own leadership.
Step 1. Decide what your goal is for this partnership. Your grand vision all the way down to the most immediate stumbling block you need to go around, go through, or obliterate. Step 2. Arrive with your laptop, walking clothes and a goal in mind for that day or week. Have a healthy snack. Hydrate. While we nourish our bodies, we will refine your goal to something significant you can truly resolve, achieve, or set in motion within the next few hours. Then we measure where you are or have been so you have a baseline before we begin. Step 3. After we stretch your mind, we will stretch your body, priming your brain for problem-solving. We will quite literally loosen you up. Step 4. Walk in the park! Baker Park is in our sights just about a hundred yards away. You can choose a short, moderate or long path. Sauntering, moderate, or brisk pace. You and me together; I can coach you along the way or be a silent partner. Just you; I can stay behind and let you have your space to think independently. Whatever works for that day. Step 5. Refresh. Take a minute to freshen up and get ready to work. We will capture all the revelations, ideas, and plans you just walked yourself into. Step 6. Then I help you make some decisions and take some action. Right then and there. Re-draft website content. Write a plan. Craft and send some important emails. Organize your electronic files. Select and set up a new payment system. Research an opportunity. Whatever it is, we spend whatever time is left working on that thing or set of things. We will work in 15-45 minute bursts taking a break in between each one. A little reward for you having set something in motion. Step 7. We will set up follow-up tasks in an online task management and accountability platform. We BOTH have access to it so that I can help make sure you follow through as well as get any additional feedback that you need. Step 8. Then we measure again to learn how much progress you made in just those few hours or since your first Walk in the Park. Step 9. We both track your follow-up tasks over the next week or until the next Walk in the Park in your series. Step 10. We tell your story. Maybe just for yourself or maybe for others. But we capture what you just worked/walked through so that you and others can be inspired to do the same. Anonymously, if you choose. (Though I prefer to celebrate you and your successes giving credit where credit is due!)
Choose 1, 3 or 5 walk series depending on just how big the issue is or just how much you want to get done. Each Walk in the Park session (Steps 2-8) lasts about 3-4 hours and includes healthy snacks & beverages. Choose morning or early afternoon.
Upon request, we can custom design a full day or even full weekend package to get way more accomplished right away!
